Men reported for wood theft

Three men have been reported for the theft of firewood at Glencoe last month.

In May, a large living red gum tree was cut down within a section of native habitat near Lake Edward, Glencoe.

Police will allege that on August 3, three men cut sections of the tree and removed it for use as firewood.

A 20-year-old Millicent man, a 22-year-old Millicent man and a 23-year-old Mount Gambier man were all reported for theft of red gum wood.

The 22-year-old was also reported for the theft of two trail cameras.

They will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Operation Red Gum is an operation conducted in the Limestone Coast Local Service Area focusing on the illegal harvesting, transport and sale of red gum firewood.

Police wish to thank members of the public who have assisted with Operation Red Gum and encourage anyone who sees people acting suspiciously near forest or park areas to contact the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131 444.
