The Bulldogs stamped their authority on the league in their contest against the Saints, nearly doubling the latter’s number of points by the final siren.

Both teams went into the match undefeated but it was the Bulldogs who beat the Saints with an offensive onslaught.

The game was set up with a 9-0 run to begin and the Bulldogs never looked back, with their ball speed and ability to find open players difficult for Saints to handle.

Young stars Josh Haggett and Harry Mules worked hard for Saints, but the experience of Simon Berkefeld led the way, scoring with 28 points.

Scorers – Bulldogs: S Berkefeld 28, S Lock 22, M Black 19; Saints: J Haggett 17, H Mules 14.

Both Panthers and Roos were searching for their first win in their contest.

But by the end of the match, Panthers were the team to get their season back on track with a 13 point win over the Roos.

Last season’s Grand Final MVP Rob Hein controlled the game and managed to lead it in points scored with 22.

Hein was well supported by former Roo Corey Barrett who had 20 points of his own.

While Harry Wright worked hard for his 18 points and Roos stalwart Mark Bachmann had 20 points before fouling out.

Scorers – Panthers: R Hein 22, C Barrett 20, O Thomson 17; Roos: M Bachmann 20, H Wright 18.

Millicent sides Cats and  Saints met in the women’s competition, with the  former coming out on top.

A three-point lead to the Cats at halftime had this contest shaping up to be a classic.

However, the Cats ramped up their defence and rebounding effort to extend their lead by three-quarter time.

Georgia and Alana Winter were working well on both ends of the floor, combing for 43 points for the Cats, while Poppy Venn scored 26 points for Saints.

The Cats ran out winners by 17 points.

Scorers – Cats: G Winter 22, A Winter 21; Saints: P Venn 26, M Pulmer 11.
