Millicent bowls champions crowned

The Millicent Bowls Club held their Championship Fours in rather warm conditions earlier this month.

The games leading up to the grand finals were played over 12 ends.

The ladies did not have quite as many entries as the men and were able to complete their competition in one day.

The men’s grand final ran into Sunday.

In the ladies the grand final saw the teams of Lyn Scudds, Elaine Goode, Judy Lowe and Ros Varcoe taking on Lorraine Hyland, Merle Stevens, Margaret Johnson and Joy Warren.

Due to very unfortunate circumstances, one of the players became incapacitated.

With the score sitting at 16 to 2, Lyn Scudds’ team were declared the winners and champions for 2025 season.

In the men’s grand final, the game was played over 15 ends.

The teams of Rod Gibbs, Neil Whelan, David Taylor and Peter Hyland played Peter Varcoe, Frank Cooper, Steve Skeer and Malcolm Wright.

On the fourth end the Varcoe team were able to pick up six shots to give them a lead of seven shots. By the 10th end the score was sitting in favour of the Varcoe team, up 13-7 ahead of the Gibbs team.

The Gibbs team was able to work their way back into the game and finished going down by two shots which gave the Varcoe team the 2025 Men’s Championship, finishing with a score of 15 shots to the Gibbs team 13 shots.
