Millicent cricket swings back into action after lengthy break

Rendelsham versus Naracoorte Townies

Rendelsham players have kept in touch in recent weeks as the Millicent Naracoorte Cricket Association had a lengthy break.

Rain forced the cancellation of the First Nations Round games on November 30 and then there was the customary bye last weekend for the Australia versus India test match at the Adelaide Oval.

In line with decades of tradition, the Rendelsham Cricket Club staged a reunion of past and present players in the Members’ Reserve on the second day on Saturday and 20 turned up.

Brief light-hearted speeches were made by past players Frank Brennan and Graeme Smith and current player Tyson Smith.

Rendelsham has always welcomed early-career and itinerant workers to wield the leather and the willow and some notable ex-players enjoyed their once a year catchup.

They included retired police Superintendent Kym Hand, Belair Primary School principal Rob Houston and Detective Senior Sergeant Will Truesdale.

The focus of Rendelsham players switches to their home ground on Saturday when the second-placed team hosts fifth-placed Naracoorte Townies.

At this time of the year, there is the inevitable speculation that favourite son Mason Redman might pull on the whites.

The star Essendon Bombers AFL defender averages about one game per season for his home cricket club where he has many close family
 ties.

Lucindale versus Kingston

It has been quite a while since third-placed Lucindale has had a game on account of the scheduled bye, wash-out and Test
 match.

On paper, this is the closest encounter of round seven as the visiting Kingston team is sitting currently in fourth place.

Speaking of AFL champions, perhaps Lucindale’s own Darcy Fogarty will strut his stuff on Saturday.

Kingston’s ever-reliable Callum Paige will be looking to put the Lucindale bowlers to the sword.

Naracoorte Warriors versus Mount Burr

The two bottom-placed sides meet at Wortley Oval with the Naracoorte Warriors (sixth) and Mount Burr (seventh) both desperate for a win to keep in touch with the ladder leaders.

Reigning premiers Millicent Black Hats have an unblemished record so far in 2024/25 and have the bye.
