Millicent marches clear of competition with big win over Casterton

Millicent travelled to Casterton on Saturday and came away with a big win over the Cats.

The Saints were business as usual in the opening term as they dominated the Cats and set the tone for the rest of the day.

The visitors kicked well in the first term, registering six majors and one minor while the Cats could only get one goal in the opening term, with the Saints holding a 30 point lead heading into the second quarter.

Millicent’s momentum continued as they switched ends as they continued to add to their big lead, slotting three goals while holding the home team goalless.

At the major break the Saints’ lead grew to 50 points.

It was rinse and repeat in the second half as the Cats struggled to get anything going, only adding one goal to their tally while Millicent continued to run up the score as they tacked on two goals to their total.

Heading into the final quarter the Cats trailed by 62 points, however they finally got some things to work, kicking two goals.

However the Saints continued to own the footy as they finished the game with a three goal quarter.

Millicent defeated Casterton Sandford 14.13 (97) to 4.3 (27).

Kalan Shanks was a standout on Saturday for the Saints, while Frazer Bradley continued adding to his season goal total with a four goal performance, taking him to 40 for the season.

South Gambier v East Gambier

The Doggies took on the Dees at Blue Lake Sports Park on Saturday and put up a good fight, but fell short against the home side.

Both sides had great opening quarters as they found ways to put some major scores on the board.

The Dees kicked four goals with East not far behind them with three goals in the quarter, and South held a seven point lead at the first break.

The Doggies built off their first quarter momentum and stunned the Dees in the second, holding them to a goal.

East took advantage of the opportunity as they slimmed the Dees’ lead down with a two-goal quarter.

As the teams left the field at halftime the Doggies seemed like they had all the momentum as they only trailed by two points.

The Dees lifted their intensity in the third term as they looked to hold on to their small lead, while South found some success in the forward line, kicking three goals.

Their lead should have been larger, however they missed countless chances with seven minor scores for the quarter.

The Doggies continued to keep some scoreboard pressure on the home team as they added two goals to their total.

Heading into the deciding quarter the Dees had a 15 point lead in hand.

The Dees shifted up a gear in the final term as they began to pile on the goals, sealing the victory with a six goal quarter which the Doggies could not match as they only put two major scores on the board.

South Gambier defeated East Gambier 14.16 (100) to 9.6 (60).

South Gambier’s Mitch Sims was again amazing in the midfield for the Dees while Brayden Kain kicked three goals in his 150th senior game.

West Gambier v North Gambier

West Gambier took on the Tigers on Saturday at Malseed Park and put on a dominant performance.

The Roos started strong in the opening term, kicking two majors while the Tigers struggled, registering only two points in the quarter to trail by 10 at the break.

The struggles continued for North in the second quarter as they fought valiantly to kick their maiden goal in the game.

The Roos began to push the Tigers out of the game in the second term as they kicked six goals, taking a 47 point lead to the half time break.

The bad luck continued for the Tigers in the third as their first goal continued to elude them.

The Roos doubled down, running over the top of the Tigers with a three goal quarter which helped give them a 66 point lead heading into the final quarter.

In the final stanza the Tigers finally got some things to work as they put some goals on the board.

However, the damage had been done as West kicked three goals of their own to seal the big victory.

West Gambier defeated North Gambier 14.6 (90) to 3.8 (26).

West Gambier’s Jordan Williams had a huge game for the Roos, kicking five goals in the win.
