Millicent Night Owls competition ‘a hoot’

The Millicent Bowls Club welcomed 120 players to its first round of Night Owls competition.

It was great to see all three greens used again with four new teams welcomed this season.

Some fill-in players for the George Team ensured they could avoid a bye in the Red Division, while three new teams joined the White Division, Miss Fitts, Mayurra Mob and Young Pups.

By the smiles and high fives they had a great time.

Touches were scored by Manny Fuentes (Scrappers), Wayne Hann (Bedford Butterflies), Bernie Bowman (Sunnies) and Richard North (Lion Rams) all with three.

In Red Division the new George team of Pluto King, Sam Schofield, Teena Eriksen and Lance Skeer defeated Bits & Pieces 29+6.

Other winners were Somerset Legends 28+1, Max’s Four 28+1, Jack Attack 27+4 and Rovers 27+3.

Try Hards (Graham Attiwell, Peter Jones, Arnold Damhuis and Paul Bosco) was the cream of the crop in Blue Division overcoming X Factor 30+21, while Lion Rams 28+12, Birdies 28+11, Lions 27+9 and Somery Seniors 27+6 also scored wins.

Sunnies represented by Nigel Ross, Bernie Bowman, Glen Tilley and Barb Leicester defeated Bedford Butterflies 29+18.

The other Red Division winners were Gizzies Crew 28+13, Miss Fitts 28+3, The Pups 27+3 and Beanz Team 26+10.

In very windy cold conditions, 36 players decided to brave the elements for a round of 2-4-2 bowls.

Winning the day with a score of 33+20 shots up was the team of Arthur O’Connell and Bill Burdon.

In second place also with a score of 33 end but finishing 16 shots up was the team of Ross Warren and Carl Schapel, who also scored a maximum eight shots in one end.

Other winning teams for the day were Malcolm Wright and John Scudds 33+16; Terry Lonergan and Andre Reinders 33+12; Lorraine Hyland and Eddie Hann 32+10; David Reichelt and Derek Bowering 31+12; Ray Doecke and Neil Whelan 31+11; Robert Radley and John Buhlmann 31+4 and John Eldridge and Frank Cooper 30+3.
