Ahorse co-owned by former Millicent Racing Club president Peter Burdon has recently broken its maiden status with a win on an Adelaide course.
After four attempts and three placings, Shadow Eagle finally saluted the judge in the field of 14.
The win came in the $50,000 John Eley Maiden Plate at Morphettville and took his career earnings well past $69,000.
The retired farmer and livestock carrier races Shadow Eagle in company with fellow Beachport resident Pat Harrald.
It is a three-year-old bay gelding.
Shadow Eagle was guided to its breakthrough win by ace jockey Monel Lunes and renowned trainer and co-owner Byron Cozamanis.
They had purchased Shadow Eagle online for only $2000.
The purchase was made on the recommendation of Cozamanis as he had trained its mother.
Those who showed their faith in Shadow Eagle were rewarded with a $13.60 dividend.
Onlookers praised the riding skills of Nunes who took Shadow Eagle from a wide barrier and they covered the 1200m in just under a minute and 11 seconds.
