The Millicent Cancer Support Group has recently handed over $25,000 in one of its largest-ever donations in its 30-year history.
The funds will be sent to the Cancer Council to fit out a room at its Greenhill Lodge in Adelaide.
This motel-like facility provides accommodation for cancer patients and their families while undergoing treatment in the capital city.
Millicent Cancer Support Group president Lisa McCourt said the Greenhill Lodge donation was the result of a unanimous vote of the 15 members at her group’s recent annual general meeting at the Somerset Hotel.
Re-elected unopposed for a second term to the leadership role, Ms McCourt said the $25,000 fundraising target had been at the forefront of the minds of her members.
She said Greenhill Lodge was a worthwhile beneficiary given its support for country residents.
Ms McCourt said the funds had been generated from many quarters including the corporate sector, catering, ram sale donations, raffles and the yearly Mother’s Day and Father’s Day walks.
Looking ahead to 2022, the Millicent Cancer Support Group is looking to stage its ever-popular Girls Day In fundraiser after COVID-related cancellations.
Meanwhile, her group has recently delivered over 100 chocolate-filled Christmas mugs and glasses to the Mt Gambier Hospital Chemotherapy unit.
This is an annual undertaking by the Millicent Cancer Support Group to bring a little cheer and support to those having treatment.
