Regular tasks were briefly suspended for some Millicent Nutrien Ag Solutions employees recently as they cheerfully swapped computers and yard duties for kitchen utensils.
Under the watchful eye of coordinator Moira Neagle, they spent two hours in the commercial kitchen of the Millicent RSL Hall assisting the efforts of Millicent Shares a Plate.
The six workers prepared 60 vegetable curry meals using donated produce.
Rather than sell merchandise or administrative duties, they were happy to chop vegetables and scrub pots and pans.
Branch manager Andrew Kleinig said his crew were happy to accept the invitation from Ms Neagle to take part.
“Nutrien Ag Solutions is a community-based business and we are well supported by the local community,” Mr Kleinig said.
“It is our way of giving back.”
Ms Neagle is hopeful that Mr Kleinig and his employees will be back in the RSL kitchen for another stint.
“As well as our five regular groups, Millicent Shares a Plate is regularly helped in the kitchen by Lions, KCA Millicent Mill workers and Woolworths employees,” Ms Neagle said.
The Millicent Shares a Plate group was formed three years ago and provides dozens of free meals each week for those in need.
They may be collected each Thursday afternoon from either the ac.care office at the Millicent Community Centre or the IGA supermarket.
This community outreach act is in addition to the 60 free meals which are provided each Monday night at the Millicent IGA by supermarket manager and New Heavan restaurant chef Sukhi Dhaliwal.
