Morning tea raises big bikkies for charity

Two local women hosted their own morning tea at Moorak to raise funds for the Cancer Council. Wendy Dicenso along with her mother, Margaret McQuade have been hosting their event since 2006, initially in the comfort of their own home. “After the first two morning teas our numbers grew, and we moved to the Moorak Hall,” Ms Dicenso said. “Since then, we have held this event every year apart from last year due to COVID restrictions.”

Ms Dicenso said the event included lucky door prizes, a raffle, homemade morning tea and an “ever popular” trading table which many individuals donate produce for. “This is a group effort as there is a lot involved in setting up, cooking and washing dishes,” she said.

Ms Dicenso’s morning tea has proven a hit, with this year’s attendance reaching up to 95 individuals and raising over $1900 for the charity. “The Cancer Council do an amazing job with their research, and Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is a great way to assist,” she said. “We all know someone who has been affected by cancer, so I feel the morning tea is very much worth all the effort.”
