The former Millicent base of The South Eastern Times is set to re-open as an office in the near future.
The Davenport Street landmark has been purchased by Kym Dodd of Professional Wind Services.
His company has more than 100 employees and services windfarms across the nation.
It has been based in recent years at another leased office in Davenport Street.
Mr Dodd began his working life as a tradesman over 25 years ago at the KCA Millicent Mill and he has told The SE Voice of his plans.
He said his company had made an earlier bid for the 60-year-old building but could not settle on terms at that time.
“We’ll have around 7-8 of us there,” Mr Dodd said.
“We began moving last weekend and will continue for the next week or so.
“We are wanting to renovate in a few stages but need to get in there to start with.”
The vendor was the Scott Group of Companies, of Mount Gambier.
Late company founder Allan Scott purchased the masthead of The South Eastern Times and the building in 2006 from the McRostie family.
The newspaper ceased publication in August of 2020.
The Scott Group of Companies sold the masthead to a consortium soon after but retained the building.
It was emptied of all plant including the redundant monochrome printing presses and has been on the market for around two years.
Constructed in 1963 by prominent Millicent building firm Zanello and Buffon Pty Ltd, the building employed as many as 20 under the one roof.
As well as being a commercial printer and publisher of a twice-weekly newspaper, in its hey-day The South Eastern Times also sold office equipment and stationery.
