Mount Burr shines at association awards night

The Mount Burr United Cricket Club has dominated the Millicent Naracoorte Cricket Association trophies for the just-completed 2024/25 season.

The team may have missed the finals but much of the heavy lifting was done by vice-captain Jack Francis (pictured centre) and veteran bowler Adrian Thompson.

Francis won the batting trophy as well as the Cricketer of the Year accolade.

With the bat, Francis made 330 runs at an average of 33 and a top score of 67.

He opened each innings with his skipper Jordan Muhovics and had to cope with the new ball and fresh bowlers every innings.

With the ball, Francis took 17 wickets at an average of 17.35 and best figures of 4/24.

Another of his teammates is his father Rob Francis who himself is a past winner of the Cricketer of the Year title.

Thompson has shown remarkable endurance for a 52-year-old in a hot summer.

The one-time player with Robe and Rendelsham was called upon to bowl his eight overs in nearly every match.

It netted him 25 wickets at an average of 9.6 and best figures of 5/28.

Thompson took two outfield catches and scored a modest amount of runs as a tailender.

Another veteran took out the fielding award as Loren Bald held onto 17 catches as a wicketkeeper.

The Naracoorte Warriors player also scored 234 runs (average 26 and top score of 76) and took five wickets.

The prestigious Gillap Trophy for the best underage cricketer was awarded to Ashton Lindner of the Millicent Black Hats.

It recognised his performances at club and representative level as well as his approach to the game.

The trophy has been given for decades by successive generations of the Andre family of Furner.
