Mount Gambier Bowls Club wraps up championship

The Mount Gambier Bowls Club has finished its Pairs and Triples Championship finals. The preliminary games were competitive with strong teams competing despite the club having restricted access due to COVID-19 and the new cover construction.

In the pairs competition, Adam Wilson and Bill Bremner won their section with three wins and 21 shots up. David Babb and Garry Widdison were also successful with a hat-trick of wins and 23 shots up.

The other section winners were Daniel Langdon and Tony Bowditch plus Jason Kuring and Brad Errock, who edged out Greg Carpenter and Tim Radley after a percentage of for and against calculation.

Due to the warm conditions, Widdison and Babb retired giving Langdon and Bowditch a walk through to the final, while Wilson and Bremner played Kuring and Errock in an 18-end play off.

Wilson and Bremner overcame Kuring and Errock in a tight contest setting up the final. After an excellent display of bowls, Wilson and Bremner defeated Langdon and Bowditch to be the champion pair and will contest the regional finals later this year.

Triples was also contested in a sectional format. Daniel Langdon, Adam Wilson and Tony Bowditch winning all three games with 26 shots up, while Ian von Stanke, Eddie Smith and Bill Bremner won two out of three and were best at 14 shots up to make the final.

The decider was played in mild weather conditions and again the bowls were played at a high standard. The team of Langdon, Wilson and Bowditch prevailed and took home the title.
