The 2021 Baker and Ey Shield was played in beautiful sunny conditions at the Lucindale Country Club on Sunday. The Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association and Southern Ports Tennis Associations faced off on the annual event which featured some great tennis.
Many matches in the Ey Shield stood out where players were pushed into the tie-break. Max Robertson from Robe endured a taxing day after playing tie-breaks in all four of his matches. Overall the Ey Shield was won by MGDTA with 284 games to SPTA’s 206.
The Baker Shield also saw some high level tennis. Some great matches were played by the top men and women, but Mount Gambier again proved too strong winning 294 games to 195.
It was great to see lots of junior players getting the opportunity to represent their associations at the highest level and look forward to resuming the rivalry next year.
