Mount Gambier Italo Australian Club indebted to its volunteers

The Italo Australian Club holds a proud history of being built and maintained by volunteers.

Our volunteers are our most valuable and valued asset to date.

As our former President, Rocco Bueti said last year, “We’re absolutely indebted to every single person that volunteers … without the volunteers doing what they’re doing, we would not be.” This still holds true today.

As a multifaceted club, we encompass not only the Italian heritage of the area, but International Soccer Club and bocce.

Our facilities are hired for functions from weddings to deb balls, birthdays and school groups.

We host soccer games across two pitches in one day and watch them from our fantastic Sporting Complex that includes change rooms, storage, canteen and bar.

The running of these and the success that comes with it can be directly attributed to our volunteers – coaches, assistant coaches, managers, grounds team, kitchen and canteen helpers, marketing and social media management and many more.

It is important to us to ensure that our volunteers feel valued in what they contribute, when they can contribute.

After all, most of our members work fulltime and have commitments to family and other ventures.

And just like any other club around Australia, it is a constant challenge to find the volunteers you need, when you need them and with the ability to do the things the club needs.

Consequently, we are seeking ways to improve how we get things done around the club.

Moving with the times, we hope to include a new type of volunteer – one that is tech savy, resourceful and skills based – to help us give back much of the time our volunteers currently sacrifice.

This change is not easy, but in the long term we hope to reap the benefits for our club.

I cannot reiterate strongly enough how important the volunteers are to our club.

As President of IAC and on behalf of the IAC board members we want to thank each and every volunteer for giving back to our club.

It is our volunteers that help to make our club great.
