Mount Gambier ladies tee off for Olympic trophy

Last Wednesday 33 ladies took part in a Stableford Event to tee off the first part of the Olympic Trophy, sponsored by Lorraine Bruhn.

The day threatened rain which eventuated and many were forced to play in cold and rainy conditions.

The course once again was in good condition and pin placements were set fair, thus resulting in eight women playing to their handicap or better, a first since last summer.

Libby Furner, (36) once again was on top of the leader board.

Furner scored 38 points, but only won after a count-back.

Her card showed no wiped holes and registered 20 points on the front and 18 points on the back.

A par on the 18th hole netted four points sealing the win.

The unlucky Jeannette Braun (25) lost the count-back, but played exceptionally well with 21 points on the front registering five three pointers.

A one point effort on the last meant she lost the Count-back.

Third place was taken out by Heather Barry (20), who had a great back nine of 21 points to set up her 37-point round.

Barry had seven three pointers in her score but six one pointers forced her to settle for third placing.

Eight balls were given out in the ball run-down and went to Jill Johnson, Marie Douglas, Di O’Donnell, Faye Mainwaring, Carol Davis, Bev Pedlar, Anne Schrapel and Jane Lamont.

Next week’s competition will be a stroke round which will also be the second event of the Olympic Trophy.

Eleven ladies played a Par Round last Saturday in light misty rain.

Once again Helen McIntyre (20) featured in the winner’s list compiling a great score of three up.

After a square front nine she was on fire during an exceptional three up on the difficult back nine. McIntyre had no wipe-outs on her card.

Club Champion Kerry Pedlar (12) also had a good score of two up comprising of a great front nine of three up including six pars.

Long standing Member Heather Chapman (30) also played below her handicap and registered one up, made up twos strokes on the front.
