The Mount Gambier Swimming Club had four of their swimmers compete at the SA State LC Championships in Adelaide recently.
After achieving state qualifying times, Lucy Dening, Vincent Moore, Vaughn Stratford and Indee Stratford attended the championships, along with coach Nathan Stratford.
The team put in an impressive performance with the swimmers bettering personal best times, swimming in a number of finals and making their mark, against other swimmers from around the stavwte.
A stand out performer from the championships was Vaughn Stratford, who was awarded a bronze National State Age Challenge medal, for his performance in the 14-year-old 100m Breaststroke.
The state based National Age Challenge provides younger swimmers who are not yet eligible to compete at Age Championships the opportunity to compete at state competitions and acquire a national virtual ranking.
This medal will provide Stratford with the potential opportunity to be a part of the State Team Challenge in August.
He had a busy weekend competing in six events where he smashed a personal best on each occasion.
Stratford was most at home in the 13-14-year-old 100m Breaststroke race, fighting with the fastest before bringing it home in fourth position.
He also reached the final in five of his six events headlined by eighth placed finishers in the 13-14-year-old 50m Backstroke and 200m Breaststroke.
Lucy Dening was another who took on the states best and gave it her all in six events.
Dening made the big stage in the 11-12-year-old 50m Butterfly race and recorded a solid sixth place finish.
She also reached the 100, Butterfly final, but could not complete the swim.
However, she still recorded a personal best time in the event and two different Breaststroke distances which accounted for the disappointment of not starting 50m Freestyle or 100m Backstroke.
Dening also fell just short of the 11-12-year-old 50m Backstroke final as a reserve finalist.
Indee Stratford was another who had a busy schedule racing in six different events in the 11-12-year-old category.
She found her peak form in many of the events and smashed her previous personal-best times on five occasions.
Indee Stratford had no issues with in Breaststroke or Backstroke impressing across both distances, while her 50m Freestyle dash also impressed onlookers.
Vincent Moore gave it a crack in the 11-12-year-old 50m Freestyle and impressed recording a PB time.
