Mount Gambier trio get hold of medals

Three students from the Mount Gambier Martial Arts Academy have picked up medals at a recent grappling event in Adelaide.

Charlene Riley, Karl Leggett and Kai Arbery were each awarded for their performance at the AGC State Championships, an event with 250 competitors the dojo was competing in for the first time.

Under the guidance of Sensei Greg Povey, it was said to be a successful day and “a great experience for everyone involved”, with Arbery the state champion in the 13-15 age division.

Riley won the women’s 70kg division and picked up third place in the open weight division.

Meanwhile, Leggett was awarded bronze in the open weight division and competed in the 83-kilogram weight division winning one of four bouts.

Like all the students at the Academy Riley, Leggett and Arbery train in Bushido Budo MMA, an all-round fighting style.

The Dojo is a member of Bushido Jiu Jitsu and affiliated with Born To Roll.
