Mount Burr 5/214 defeated Rendelsham 10/126
Mount Burr has continued its giant-killing form with a second consecutive win at home over a competition heavyweight in round 12 on Saturday in the Millicent Naracoorte Cricket Association.
The Mozzies began the month at their Mick and Jean Walker base by lowering the colours of the Millicent Black Hats on the penultimate delivery of the match.
The Millicent Blacks Hats are the ladder leaders and reigning premiers,
Mount Burr stepped up a notch on Saturday when they defeated their highly-fancied opponent and 2023/24 grand finalist in Rendelsham by a decisive 88 run margin.
The home side can thankfully acknowledge the role of veteran Nathan Muhovics for their upset victory.
Coming in to bat when his brother, skipper and opening batsman Jordan Muhovics was dismissed for only one, the partnership for the second wicket was then worth a massive 185 runs.
After being dropped before scoring, Muhovics made 98 with six fours and three sixes.
He lost his wicket to a catch on the boundary line by Tyson Smith off the bowling of his skipper Ayden Reid.
The perfect foil at the other end was provided by vice-captain Jack Francis with a solid 67.
There was a flurry of wickets in the last few overs but Rendelsham’s score of 5/214 was quite a target given the windy condition.
The Rendelsham bowlers in particular were having a tough time and sent down 33 wides.
In reply, Rendelsham seldom looked in control and were dismissed in the 31st over for 126.
Visiting batsman Jake Wight top-scored with 75 at better than a run-per-ball but the home team always looked likely to defend their total.
After claiming five Millicent Black Hats scalps in round 11, veteran Mount Burr bowler Adrian Thompson dismissed four of his former club mates on Saturday.
This game was listed in the official program for play at Rendelsham but the venues swapped late last year after Mount Burr was unavailable for play due to a new irrigation system being installed.
