Murphies and Magpies set to clash

A Grade – Kalangadoo v Glencoe

Kalangadoo and Glencoe will go head to head in the second A Grade semi-final of the 2022 Mid South Eastern Netball Association season this Saturday at Mount Burr. The Murphies have a strong goal circle in Malinda Markiewicz and Jenna Paproth, who are both incredibly accurate.

Down the other end of the court Kori Collins and Abbey Duncan are also hard working with Duncan’s maturity settling the attack line for the Pies.

Glencoe’s playing coach Sarah Edwards combines well with Chantelle Cocks in the defensive end and they can both create turnovers and pull in rebounds.

Jayde Peacock is a hard-working midcourter and she leads youngster Sophie Wrightson in the goal circle.

Glencoe has come away with the win both times these teams have met throughout the season and they have the potential to get another win under their belts this weekend.

A Reserve – Kalangadoo v Robe

The second A Reserve semi-final will take place between Kalangadoo and Robe.

Best and fairest Kim Ross will fight hard through the midcourt to create turnovers and is supported by Keelin Winterfield around the attacking circle for the Roosters.

The strength and accuracy of Demi Carter and Hannah Perkins in the circle is a focal point for Robe, with both goalies fighting for every possession and shooting with ease.

Kalangadoo’s Shanen Pulkkinen and Shanae Neale put the pressure on for their opponents in the circle and force turnovers.

Jamie Ryan and Zoe Rout work the ball down the court with ease and feed into their goalies Maddy Bonanno and Estella Serle.

The Magpies have won both times these teams met during the home and away season, but the scores have been close and this weekend has the potential to go either way.

B Grade – Glencoe v Kalangadoo

Kalangadoo will need to utilise the height of Gina Gogel and Isobel Giddings in their goal circle because any loose balls will be intercepted with ease by Glencoe’s Kate Sealey and Sally McDonnell.

Chloe Watson has great vision down the court for the Murphies and will be able to feed her goalies Madeline Watson and Kayla Medhurst with strength and accuracy. The Magpies have the strong hands of Kylie Schultz and Emily Mulraney in their defensive circle.

Kalangadoo’s Meg Malseed works hard down the court, setting the pace for her team and creating the possibility for turnovers and combines well with Rhianna May to feed into the goal circle.

The Murphies have come away with the win both times these teams have met throughout the year, but the Magpies will have to fight hard to change that in this game.

B Reserve – Mount Burr v Kalangadoo

Mount Burr will play at home against Kalangadoo and chase a B Reserve grand final berth.

Best and fairest winner Jodi Greenwood will lead her team from the goal circle, using her strong hold and accurate shooting to propel the Magpies.

And when combined with Narelle Ryan they have the ability to lift their side.

The Mozzies’ Georgia Lambert and Rebecca Fox will need to use their height and strength to create turnovers for their team, while Hannah Fraser and Kelsi Sharp must feed their goalies accurately because Magpies Gemma Box and Emma Mules use their height and ability to read the ball to create intercepts.

When these teams have met throughout the season they have had close games and both have the potential to finish the day with the win.

17 and Under – Port MacDonnell v Robe

The Demons take on the Roosters in the 17 and Under semi-final.

League runner-up best and fairest Lara Wilson is a strong rebounding force for the Demons and combines well with Mackenzie Millard in the goal circle.

Robe’s Maddie Wirth and Lexy Hayes will need to work hard for rebounds and aim to create turnovers outside of the circle.

The strength of Maisie Hayes throughout the court is a vital part of Robe’s side, while Demon Arriella Smith will have to shut down her drives down the court and onto the circle edge.

Roosters Sienna Brooks and Ella Mackey are accurate goalies and will both come out determined to score off every ball.

Both teams have had a win this year and this game also has the potential to go either way.

15 and Under – Mount Burr v Kalangadoo

The Mozzies face off against the Magpies on their home ground on Saturday.

Kalangadoo has a strong side with many of the girls also playing senior grades. Chloe Peacock runs hard through the midcourt, wreaking havoc and creating turnovers for the Pies.

When she is combined with Shayden Russell at wing attack they feed well into their goalies Gabby Varcoe and Tegan Lythgo.

Mount Burr’s Macy Burns and Sara Smith will use their height to their advantage under the ring to take in any rebounds.

Down at the other end of the court Abbey Falting will use her maturity to lead her team on the court and will be supported by Tilly Gamble in the goal circle. Kalangadoo won both head to heads but the Mozzies will not go down without a fight.

13 and Under – Port MacDonnell v Kalangadoo

Port MacDonnell takes on Kalangadoo to open proceedings at Mount Burr this weekend.

The Demons goalies Lily Jacob and Kasey McLean are accurate in the goal circle, while Magpies’ defenders Matilda Badenoch and Molly Peacock will need to use their ability to read the play to create intercepts and turnovers.

Kalangadoo’s Ava Prosperi-Porta and Port MacDonnell’s Bailee Lewis will have a good tussle down the court, with both players fighting hard for the respective teams.

Magpies Lucy Egan and Kiersten Cole move well in the goal circle and shoot with accuracy, making it hard for Demons defenders Layla McPherson and Chelsea Fulham to create turnovers.

Port MacDonnell won both minor round battles and have the potential to do it again, but Kalangadoo will make them work hard for it.
