Nailbiting end to championship

Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held its fourth Association championship recently, with 30 entries contesting the 2022 Faith Jewelers/David and Jane Peacock Mixed Pairs.

The father and daughter pair from Wandilo in skipper Tony Bowditch and lead Nicola Bowditch met the in-form Moorak combination of Kevin Pannell skippering and wife Carla Pannell leading in the first semi-final.

The Bowditch pair proved too strong winning 14 shots to 1.

In the second semi-final the son and mother combination from Post-Tel of Zac Pearson, skippering and Fiona Pearson leading defeated the Commercial Club pair of Mary Lockwood and Rod Fleming 15 shots to 1.

In the final Bowditch’s team started exceptionally well, scoring on the first two ends but Pearson’s team then scored the next three ends which gave them the lead.

On the sixth end the scores were level, making whoever scored on the last end the champions.

With Bowditch holding one shot, Zac Pearson had the last bowl which failed to convert.

This gave Tony and Nicola Bowditch back-to-back victories to take out the 2022 Faith Jewelers/David and Jane Peacock Mixed Pairs Championship five shots to four.

The consolation semi-finals were contested between Veronica Opie from Saints and Trevor Williams from Post-Tel who defeated Heather Glynn and Vince Mancuso from Kongorong six shots to five.

The second semifinal saw the Blue Lake Bowlers team of Bronwyn Hill and Robert Freemantle defeat Chris Carn and Peter Gregory from Wandilo Water Rats seven shots to three.

The combined team of Opie and Williams prevailed to beat Hill and Freemantle in the final of the consolation nine shots to four.
