Nangwarry Primary School celebrates year of achievements

Nangwarry Primary School saw the year out with a bang with their school concert and learning celebrations.

There were plenty of awards to commemorate the year as well as a special celebration for staff member Kay Fenn who retired after 40 years of service at the school.

The Dinnison Family Student Merit award was presented to Aylah Virtanen by Cheryl Dinnison.

The award recognises a student who shows respect to their teachers and fellow students and shows an overall high achievement in all areas of their school work.

The RSL Student Work Ethic award was won by Amelia Barnes-Potter, who received it from Christine Dohnt for showing determination, application, diligence and persistence.

Jack Barry won the MacKillop Award Positive Contributor to the School Community for showing school values, creating a respectful environment, and helping adults.

It was presented by Nangwarry Primary School principal Jessica Herrewyn on behalf of Member for MacKillop Nick McBride.

The MacKillop Award Growth in Learning was also presented to winner Jett Dinnison by Mrs Herrewyn on behalf of Mr McBride.

The award is presented to the student from Reception to Year 6 who consistently displays many powerful learning dispositions.

The Outstanding Sports Achiever Shield Participants for 2022 was awarded to the student/s who have participated in and represented Nangwarry Primary School at SAPSASA level.

Harvey Virtanen was selected to represent Nangwarry in softball, football and cricket last year.

Past student Jessica Stewart presented this award as she was the first student to receive the honour in 1994 and was lucky enough to have it awarded to her five times whilst attending Nangwarry Primary School.

Finally, Wayne Horbury received the Volunteer Award for volunteering at Nangwarry Primary School for the last 12 months.

Mr Horbury is a keen advocate for the community garden project and has spent many hours building the greenhouse and chicken shed as well as working with the students to show them the skills required to put things together.

A Nangwarry Primary School representative said the school was extremely lucky to have volunteers like Mr Horbury and they sincerely thanked him for his services.
