Naracoorte women put stop to city side ‘clean sweep’ on road

Senior Men

Millicent United v Blue Lake

Blue Lake secured a solid victory on Sunday afternoon as they travelled to Millicent to take on Millicent United.

The first half was a fairly even affair as Millicent did a great job at holding off Blue Lake from scoring any early goals.

Millicent goalkeeper Fabien Musombelo found himself under constant pressure given a heavy wind blowing his way.

Despite that Musombelo held his own and made some top saves early on.

Millicent held strong early, but learned they could not hold off Blue Lake forever as Gay Nai Hsar found the back of the net late in the half to give the Rangers the lead at half time.

Millicent continued to make life difficult for Blue Lake in the second term, refusing to allow them any easy chances.

The Rangers were able to break through Millicent’s defence again halfway through the stanza as Jack Latham scored the second goal of the day.

Blue Lake hit the scoreboard again shortly after as Latham struck again to give his side a three goal lead.

Late in the match Blue Lake put the cherry on top of a solid game as Luke Harris scored the final goal of the match to seal a four goal victory.

Blue Lake defeated Millicent United 4-0.

Portland Panthers v Apollo

Apollo secured a big win on Sunday as they travelled to Portland and came away with a big win over the Panthers.

Early in the first half it was an even contest as neither side could take the lead.

That changed in the back end of the half as Jakob Hann came up big for Apollo, scoring two quick goals in the span of two minutes, with Apollo taking the two goal lead into half time.

Apollo continued to apply the pressure early in the second half, and were awarded a penalty

Hann stepped up and slotted the goal, making it a three goal lead for Apollo.

Portland continued to struggle in the second half as they tried to build an attack to cut into Apollo’s three goal lead.

Late in the match it was Apollo again who found themselves with an opportunity to add to their lead as they were awarded another penalty.

Eh Hsa Poe took this one and slotted it to give his side a four goal lead and ultimately the win.

It was a great day for Apollo’s Jakob Hann who finished with a hat-trick in the win.

The victory jumps Apollo into the top four with Portland dropping to fifth.

Apollo defeated Portland 4-0.

Naracoorte United v International

International continued their winning ways on Sunday with a convincing victory over Naracoorte United in Naracoorte.

Naracoorte did well to hold off Inter early as they denied the travelling team any early goals.

Inter eventually broke through as Sam and Matt Bueti scored two quick goals late in the half, with the black and blue retaining that buffer at half time.

Inter wasted no time in the second half adding to their lead as Caleb Casey found the back of the net at the 50 minute mark.

However Naracoorte responded well as Kadir Ahmed scored soon after to get his side on the board.

Inter continued to create chances to score in the second half as Matt Bueti registered another goal to his name from a penalty.

Bueti continued to punish Naracoorte as they went on a scoring tear, adding three more goals to Inter’s total in a short amount of time.

In the later part of the half Inter finished strong as Matt Bueti scored another while Sam Bueti found the back of the net twice to seal the big win.

Matt Bueti finished the game with six goals while Sam Bueti scored a hattrick.

Inter head coach Tony D’Agostino thought his side had an overall great game against a Naracoorte side that had a heavy defensive game plan.

“It’s difficult to pick on anything when you have a convincing win but it was still tough,” he said.

“Naracoorte came out quite defensive in the first half and tried to play their game style which was trying not to concede and made it really difficult for us.”

D’Agostino thought there were a few standouts in the win on Sunday.

“It’s hard not to name Matt Bueti with six goals, he’s led the team well as captain this year and he finished the good play that we had because you can have a good build up and good team play but if you do not put the ball in the back of the net then it does not come to anything,” he said.

“Another player we thought was outstanding on the day was Andrea Menotti, he played in our midfield and played consistent and created a lot of opportunities.

“I also cannot go past Harris Livingstone in the backline who controlled most of our play from the back and created a lot of really good opportunities for us.”

Inter defeated Naracoorte – 10-1.

Senior Women

Millicent United v Blue Lake

Millicent United’s struggles continued on Sunday as they suffered their fourth straight loss with Blue Lake coming to town and taking the three points.

Millicent started well in the first half as they struck first with Phoebe Rose scoring the opening goal of the match – which was also Millicent’s first goal of the season.

Blue Lake could not find an answer and Millicent took a one goal lead into half time.

Millicent’s lead did not last long in the second half as Pip Crewe got her side back into the match with an early second half goal.

After the equalising goal both sides struggled to find another for most of the second half.

Blue Lake were finally able to take the lead late in the half as Lily Kradolfer found the back of the net.

Shortly after Blue Lake scored again as Crewe slotted her second and gave her side a two goal lead.

Late in the half Blue Lake added to their lead and stopped any chance of a Millicent comeback as Kradolfer scored goal number four for Blue Lake.

Blue Lake defeated Millicent United 4-1.

Portland Panthers v Apollo

Apollo secured a solid win on Sunday as they took on the Portland Panthers in Portland.

There were no early goals in this one as neither side could find the back of the net in the opening stages of the match.

Apollo were able to take a lead heading into half time as Rylee Kuchel came up big for Apollo, scoring two quick goals late in the half and giving Apollo control of the match at the break.

Apollo struck again in the second half as Kuchel scored her third for the day and gave Apollo an early three goal lead.

Apollo did well to hold their lead for most of the half as the Panthers could not get much going.

That changed late in the half as Chelsea Fowler scored the only goal for Portland in the match, but it was not enough and the Panthers went down by two goals.

Rylee Kuchel was a standout for Apollo with her hattrick performance.

Apollo defeated Portland 3-1.

Naracoorte United v International

Top of the table Naracoorte United came away with a hard fought win over Inter on Sunday as the struggling visiting side gave it their all on the road.

It did not take long for Naracoorte to take control of the game as they found themselves with an early lead only 11 minutes in.

Ashlea Pilven found the back of the net for Naracoorte and put her side in a good position going into half time.

With a one goal lead in hand Naracoorte played well in the second half and refused to give Inter many easy chances to get back into the game.

The margin of error was slim for Naracoorte with the one goal lead and defensively they were strong, keeping a clean sheet in the match.

While Naracoorte could not find any more goals, the early score from Pilven proved to be the game winner as Naracoorte came away with their third win of the season.

Naracoorte defeated Inter 1-0.
