Need for speed is most wanted

Mount Gambier is set to host yet another action packed night of speedway action at the Borderline Speedway this Saturday.

The Borderline will feature round four of the ASWR Wide Open Wingless Sprint Series as well as the Formula 500 SA Title and Junior Formula 500.

Competitors from nearly every state in Australia will compete in the Wingless Sprints, with around 60 entries in the event.

This meeting will be the fourth of five meetings in the series, with the final held in Mildura in March just before the Australian Title.

There will be a few locals competing on Saturday night, including Kirby Hillyer and Mitch Broome who will be looking to take out the win on their home track.

There are currently 23 entries in the Formula 500 with South Australian and Victorian racers making up the list, with locals including Ryan Harry racing on the night.

There are also solid numbers registered for the Junior 500, with 13 entries so far.

Event organiser Cary Jennings hopes to see a good crowd on Saturday night despite February generally attracting smaller attendances.

“I would like to see a pretty good crowd there, I do not know what happens this time of year but we just find that February is a bit light on spectators,” he said.

“But if we can get as much news out there then we might pick up some people.”

Gates will open at 4pm with racing kicking off at 5pm.
