Mount Burr and Tantanoola netballers set aside their on-court rivalries on Saturday night to raise over $5000 for the Ovarian Cancer Australia charity.
They jointly staged a Ladies Night in a marquee on Can Hill at Mount Burr when the clubs’ respective footy teams battled it out under the new $200,000 lights.
Billed as a deluxe experience, it was a rare opportunity to add plenty of glamour to a night footy match and 130 women accepted the invitation.
They had a prime view of the action on the oval and access to upmarket food and drinks.
Admission fees, raffle proceeds, lucky squares and bar profits all added up to an impressive sum.
Another money-spinner was the sale of $5 scrunchies with every netballer across all seven grades wearing them in their hair.
They were teal-coloured which ties in with the colours of Ovarian Cancer Australia.
The organising committee comprised Mount Burr’s Amelia Morrison, Brianna Scanlon, Heidi Guyett and Rox Wallis, alongside Tantanoola’s Emma Gould and Jami Walker.
Spokesperson Heidi Guyett said Ovarian Cancer was dear to the hearts of the players and supporters of the Tigers and the Mozzies.
“We lost Mount Burr netballer Ann Guyett to ovarian cancer last year and she was my sister-in-law,” she said.
“The two clubs decided on a joint fundraising effort and we received a wonderful level of support from local businesses when we approached them for sponsorship or donations.
“They appreciated the two clubs were combining in this way.
“As one example, we needed tables and chairs and were prepared to pay the Millicent Lions Club their usual hire fee.
“Not only did the Lions waive the hire fee, but they also gave us a $500 donation.
“We really do live in a beautiful country.”
