Netball season heats up

With two games down, players are starting to get back into the swing of things in the Mount Gambier Netball Association. The Set and Go players opened proceedings coming out with enthusiasm to burn on Friday night.

On the following morning, the Under 13B teams enjoyed lovely conditions and a great number of spectators were given a treat. All four teams within the Under 13A grade took to the courts later in the day with a passion to work hard and gain any possessions of the ball they could.

The 15 and Under players develop each week with their interception rates high placing some great pressure on their opponents the in-house showdown between Zodiacs Blue and Zodiacs Gold did not disappoint. Only two goals separated them at half time and they both had passages of play that bought a smile to their coaches faces.

Shooting was high along with great defensive work all over the court, but the blue team emerged victorious after lots running. Vicis and Saints had a little one sided game with the latter putting their foot down from the first whistle.

Scoring a massive 14 goals for the second quarter, Saints strived ahead for the entirety of the game. Hobitz and Intruders played off in a tough first quarter with Intruders managing a three-goal lead by the end.

Stepping up their work rate and putting into place some well learnt skills, they increased their lead to eight by the main break. Hobitz dug deep and did what they could to slow their opposition down, but unfortunately, they were out skilled for the game by a strong competitor.

The SE Voice Junior Player of the Round was awarded to Mia Rose Watt for her great work in the mid court and in defence for Zodiacs Blue. Close games ensued in the Under 17 competition and teamwork was the call of the day.

There is a lot of talent to burn in this grade with many players going on later in the day to play within senior sides. B2 teams did not want to be outdone by the juniors and again provided some great games.

There was a lot of laughter and enjoyment within these teams, while B1 was a little one-sided. Zodiacs and Amazons had the closest game for the day. Intruders Black came out ahead in their game with a 21 goal win, whilst Hobitz Blue walked away victors with a 27 goal margin.

A2 saw two great games between some very competitive teams. Zodiacs and Hobitz played a strong game with the latter getting the upper hand. Tough defenders on court made it hard for the Zodiacs ladies to get the ball down to their goalies. Mid court work was tough for both sides with the ball spending a lot of time in the middle and in the end Hobitz worked hard for the 51-22 win.

Saints and Intruders had a tough playoff. Intruders took some great interceptions in the first quarter allowing them to take a nine-goal break at the first change. Changes from Saints in the second quarter allowed them to settle and keep Intruders to only three additional goals for the quarter.

Mid court work was high for both sides with the intensity and passion showing on the faces of all the players. Conversions was the call of the game with any missed shots being gained by defenders and returned to the other end of the court.

The SE Voice Senior Player of the round award went to Ebony Leggett from Intruders. The A Grade games were a little one sided, but this did not deter them from giving it their all. Hobitz smashed Vicis by 50 goals, while Intruders and Saints knocked over Amazons and Zodiacs respectively.
