A Grade KALANGADOO V HATHERLEIGH
In the much anticipated A Grade match the game started off with neither team giving an inch. Kalangadoo put the pressure on, resulting in an early held ball call against the Eagles.
Jayde Peacock was driving well, Melissa Russell holding well in the goal circle, converting her opportunities or managing to rebound any missed shots.
Magpie Abbey Duncan was also a creative playmaker in the goal circle. Tegan Merrett was influential for the Eagles at WA, her speed and quick and accurate passing into the goal circle impressive.
Keston Green started the match well, shooting 10 for the quarter.
Both defences were working overtime, getting hands to plenty of balls.
Kalangadoo’s finals experience showed at the start of the quarter, they settled quickly and took a three goal lead into the first break.
Maddie Pulmer took a brilliant intercept to start the second term, breaking Kalangadoo’s first centre pass. Kalangadoo broke back, applying pressure from one end of the court to the other.
Chloe Pratt at WD for the Magpies was having a tense and physical battle with Tegan Merrett.
Pulmer and Maddie Redman had a great quarter, slowly gaining the upper-hand on Russell and Duncan. Green continued to pose a threat to the Magpies, shooting 11 for the quarter.
The game was all tied up at half time, 31-31.
Duncan started well in the third finding great space in the circle, rotating and working beautifully with Russell.
Kalangadoo’s work rate appeared to increase this quarter and they forced Hatherleigh into making some errors.
Hatherleigh’s Centre Lara McGregor left the court about half way through the quarter, bringing Chelsea Galpin into the game.
This seemed to unsettle the Eagles slightly and Kalangadoo took advantage and started getting on top. Russell collided with Redman in a contest and left the court with a knee injury with Ebony McDiarmid on court for the remainder of the game.
Kalangadoo finished the quarter strongly, piling on 19 goals, missing only one for the quarter and taking a five goal lead into the final break.
Both sides came out firing as Hatherleigh switched their defenders in Pulmer and Redman.
This proved effective, both defenders getting touches early.
The last quarter was physical, Pratt, Peacock and Merrett all putting their bodies on the line with the latter forced off for the blood rule.
Magpie defenders Croser and Pitt were putting the Eagles goalies under immense pressure, however Green and Haines remained composed, shooting well until the final siren.
Hatherleigh outscored Kalangadoo in the final quarter, but thanks to their 5 goal lead at three quarter time, the Magpies came out on top by 3 goals and will advance to the grand final.
Hatherleigh go into the preliminary final against Tantanoola, hoping for a win and another crack at the Magpies.
A Reserve KALANGADOO V GLENCOE
The A Reserve match started goal for goal with neither side being able to get the upper hand.
Kalangadoo remained cool, calm and collected and pushed out to lead by three at half time.
Both teams made changes at the main break, as Glencoe worked hard, yet Kalangadoo managed to increase their lead by a further one goal.
Glencoe came out firing at the start of the last with an immediate impact, with Glencoe pegging back the lead.
Scores were tied up and the game was tense with just minutes to go.
Kalangadoo settled with less errors and secured a two goal win.
B Grade KALANGADOO V GLENCOE
The first quarter of the B Grade match saw Glencoe come out firing and really put Kalangadoo under a lot of pressure at both ends.
Kalangadoo had some smooth passages of play but the consistent pressure through the mid court from Glencoe had them up by three at quarter time.
Kalangadoo adjusted quickly and shot well even when put under ample amounts of pressure to be up by one at the main break.
In the third quarter Kalangadoo took the lead early and consistently looked after turnover opportunities. Kalangadoo went into the final quarter up by eight.
In the last quarter scoring was tied at 11 all but the damage was already done for Glencoe finishing 49-41.
B Reserve HATHERLEIGH V KALANGADOO
In the B Reserve 2nd Semi-Final, it was Hatherleigh taking on Kalangadoo.
Not much separated these teams at the end of the minor rounds, Hatherleigh finishing on top by just 1 point.
Hatherleigh started the first quarter strongly with accurate shooting and strong defence.
Kalangadoo’s goalies took a little longer to settle in and Hatherleigh held a five goal lead at the first break.
In the second quarter, Kalangadoo made changes down their defensive end and also found their shooting range, bringing them to within 1 at the long break.
The game was all tied up at three quarter time, before Kalangadoo worked hard in the last quarter, getting the jump and applying pressure, forcing the Eagles into a few errors.
The Magpies hung on for a three goal win.
17 & Under HATHERLEIGH V KALANGADOO
The 17’s match started off at a fast pace, with some great contests and passages of play right across the court.
With both teams boasting some of the best goalies in the 17’s competition, none disappointed, all shooting with accuracy and holding their ground well throughout the first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, Hatherleigh came out firing, dominating the play and creating multiple turnovers, outscoring Kalangadoo 24-10.
Hatherleigh continued to dominate throughout the third quarter, outscoring Kalangadoo 21-9.
The fourth quarter saw Kalangadoo make some positional changes, bringing them back into the game, outscoring the Eagles 15-13.
The damage was already done however and the Eagles went on to win by a convincing 21 goals.
15 & Under MT BURR V HATHERLEIGH
The first match of the day began at a fast pace with both teams taking time to settle in attack.
The entire game remained a tight contest, with the biggest margin only every being three. Mount Burr hung in to take the match by three and went straight through to the grand final.
13 & Under KALANGADOO V HATHERLEIGH
In the youngest battle of the day undefeated Kalangadoo took on Hatherleigh.
In an uneven game, the Eagles were simply outclassed by Kalangadoo. Kalangadoo were too strong all over the court and took a comfortable win.
