Netballers face tough conditions

Close netball matches were  played in challenging conditions at the weekend, with  loose passes, dropped balls and missed shots at goal appearing on each court during the day.

By the time seniors took to the courts conditions had deteriorated, with drizzle impacting on players’ games while a slippery ball on each court saw players scrambling to maintain control.

The A Grade league threw up a surprise with Amazons taking a close win over Vicis, 45-39, moving them up on the ladder.

Meanwhile, Saints lost to a focussed Intruders side, 29-48, while Hobitz claimed a convincing win over a short-handed Zodiacs side, 90-22.

In the A2 comp, a tightly fought out game all over the court led Intruders to claim the accolades against Saints,  28-25, with Hobitz winning convinc- ingly against Zodiacs 56-21.

In the B1 games, Hobitz Blue took on Zodiacs, with the match finishing 42-19.

Neither side was willing to allow  the conditions to win, with their passing being challenged each time.

Intruders Black faced a strong  defensive line up this week from the Amazons ladies, but successfully broke them down with their shooting accuracy, finishing 42-17.

Intruders Orange also had a tough game up against an inform Hobitz Red side, with the latter taking the win 46-28.

Defensively, Hobitz were superior with its defenders picking off many loose passes, despite worsening weather conditions as the day went on.

The SE Voice Senior of the Round award went to Lily Oakley from Hobitz Blue for not only her great game, but also her entertainment after the game and photo session.

Meanwhile, Saints and Vicis’ B2 finished 29-22, while Zodiacs went up against a determined Intruders side, finishing 44-31.

In the 17 and under comp, the in-house battle between Hobitz Blue and Hobitz Red again proved to be a little one-sided on the books with tough play for the game, finishing 46-27.

Saints and Intruders again had a tough battle with the game close for the entire match, ending 34-31 in Saints’ favour.
