Action will return to McCorquindale Park this Tuesday with a new mixed netball competition hitting the courts.
Games will be played from 6pm on Tuesday nights and the season will r un until mid-December.
Organisers Kate Bruce-Smith and Jade Lythgo decided to test the water to see if there was any interest in the town and were blown away by the response.
Bruce-Smith said the organisers sensed an opportunity and there is plenty of anticipation for the competition.
“Seeing as the senior netball didn’t go ahead this year and a lot of people missed out on playing sport for their usual winter club, so Jade and I thought we’d see if there was going to be enough interest in starting up a social mixed netball competition before the 2021 pre-season starts,” she said.
“Jade and I both played in a mixed netball team in Mount Gambier earlier this year and had an absolute ball with our mates.
“We thought people could potentially be keen and then we eventually bit the bullet and called the president of the Penola Netball Club Karly Honner to see if she would be on board.
“She was and then it was go time to see what we could get up and running.”
After the competition was advertised on social media, a total of 10 teams signed up, but Bruce-Smith conceded there is still lots of work to be done before play starts.
“It would be great to see some supporters there and any extra helpers to score games or anything that will help to make the nights run smoothly,” she said.
