New $7m school building unveiled

Grant High School last week marked the official opening of its $7m newest building.

SA Education Minister John Gardner was on hand to open the facility, with other guests including Limestone Coast education alumni Gary Costello, Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell and Labor candidate Katherine Davies.

The new building has been named Prawulu, the Boandik word for centre, chosen because the building is situated in the middle of the school.

Year 12 school vice captain Chelsea Ray opened the ceremony, singing ‘In My Dreams’ by Anastasia.

Minister Gardner said while the new addition had been in use for a while, it was now complete following the formal opening.

“Here at Grant High School, I think what you have been able to achieve with a bit over $7m is really fantastic,” Mr Gardner said.

“In this building I am sure there are going to be a lot of things learnt in the years ahead in important fields like performing arts and science.

“The jobs students are going to have available to them in the years ahead are many and diverse.”

“South Australia is now the logical place to do the sorts of jobs that exist in the future in industries like space, cyber and agricultural technology,” he said.

“There are wonderful teaching staff and a diverse range of subjects that you can choose so find the thing that brings you joy and passion towards a successful life.

“This great build may have already been in use for a few months, but … will be appreciated for a long time.”
