New learning pathways open

St Martins Lutheran College students have welcomed a new state-of-the-art learning facility.

The college last week officially opened a new two storey building comprising a food and hospitality centre, three art rooms, a learning common and exhibition space, a teacher office and storage area.

The college received $941,100 for the project through the Federal Government’s Capital Grants Program, which provides funding for non-government schools to improve capital infrastructure.

St Martins Lutheran College Chair Marianne Tucker was thrilled with the project.

“The college community is very appreciative of the Australian Government for the generous funding under the Capital Grants Program which has been administrated by the SA Independent Schools Block Grant Authority,” she said.

“These funds have enabled the college to build a new Food and Hospitality Centre, as well as a Visual and Creative Arts Centre providing the college with twenty first century learning spaces and the ability to offer a greater range of course pathways.”

College Principal Alan Connah was full of praise for everyone who had worked on the project.

“Special thanks goes to Richard Stafford and Gavin Dixon of the architectural firm DesignInc, as well as Craig Williamson, Jon Von Duve and Camilla Jackson of Mossop Constructions, for undertaking the design and construction of such a fantastic facility within a very busy educational campus,” he said.

Mr Connah also acknowledged the hard work of all the college staff involved in the project, along with those who continue to provide an exceptional education to the students.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin said students would benefit from the new Food and Hospitality Centre and Visual and Creative Arts Centre that would provide the college with the capacity to implement contemporary pedagogies in these areas of learning and to cater for a growing demand for courses in these subject areas.

“Unfortunately, due to SA Health regulations I was unable to attend the opening but I am looking forward to visiting St Martins Lutheran College to see firsthand the new facilities and hear about the positive impact it will have on students,” he said.

“St Martins Lutheran College has a wonderful school community, and this new food and hospitality centre and visual and creative arts centre will further enhance the learning environment.”
