New MGNA phase

The 2022 Mount Gambier Netball Association season enters the second half of the season this Saturday as teams start to eye bigger things ahead.

Although no play took place over the June long weekend, players are not necessarily coming into this weekend’s round 11 completely cold.

Teams hit the courts just one week ago to complete the midweek round 10 under lights at Olympic Park.

In A Grade the top teams took the opportunity to shine bright under the stars and storm into the break with some huge wins.

Intruders continued to show why it is the class team of the competition with a high-scoring win over Zodiacs.

Christie McCourt was dominant under the ring, while she enjvwwoyed plenty of supply from the likes of Amy Bignell, Emma Gilcrist and Gabriella Chandler, who won lots of ball in the middle.

Zodiacs had little ammunition to respond and could only watch as flew to a 68-goal win and its highest score of the season with 94.

The win boosted Intruders’ percentages to 213.81, almost 100 more than the next best team Hobitz which had the bye.

On the adjacent court, Saints strolled to an equally convincing win over Vicis.

Vicis is yet to win a game and it suffered another tough night.

They could only muster 15 goals as Saints proved far too strong.

Paige Carter in the goal circle and enjoyed strong support from Rhiannon Christian, Ellie Harvey, Rebecca Humphries and Tiia Pelkonen.

These names ensured Saints had everything its way in the 71-15 win.

Saturday afternoon netball returns this Saturday and fans will be treated to a massive contest on court 1 at Olympic Park.

The two top teams Intruders and Hobitz will go head to head for the penultimate time in the home and away season before finals.

Intruders start as favourites having won both previous clashes earlier in the season.

The black and orange outfit flexed their muscles in round 1 and cruised to an impressive 40-goal win.

But the rematch in round 6 was a tighter affair with Hobitz cutting the losing margin in half during a more fiercely fought four-quarter battle.

The likes of Kym Stewart, Ella Cruise and Jordan Gower will hope this trend continues this Saturday and give Intruders a bigger scare.

Hobitz wants to prove it can take the fight to the next level having defeated every team aside from Intruders.

Third and fourth placed sides Zodiacs and Saints are also expected to enjoy a tight tussle.

Only one win splits the pair on the ladder, but Saints have the better record and percentage in a season highlighted by a shock win over top team Intruders.

But both head to head battles have been enthralling with both being decided by single-figure margins.

Saints drew first blood in the opening round after a low-scoring nail-biter went their way by just two goals, but Zodiacs hit back in the rematch winning 49-43.

Following the pair of classics, predicting a winner is near impossible and drama is the only certainty for those who will witness the MGNA action from 2.45pm this Saturday.
