Planning permission is being sought to convert a Suttontown house into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.
Public comment has been invited on the proposal to change the use of the Sassanowsky Road property near Mount Gambier.
The proposed centre is located within the boundary of the Grant District Council.
It would accommodate up to four clients at any one time for a period of three to 10 days, and would operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Clients will reside at the centre during the detox program which typically takes between three to 10 days,” states the 31-page report submitted by Frank Brennan Consulting Services.
“The centre (would) operate as a voluntary admission centre, where clients choose to attend at their own will to seek support as a part of their detox program.
“The centre is to operate under a range of experienced staff including medical staff, counselling staff and support staff.”
It would be called the ‘Falcon Detox Centre’ and be developed by NDIS providers Serene Country Living.
Medical staff, including a registered nurse or licenced practical nurse, would be employed at the centre – as well as on-call physicians and psychiatrists.
A courtyard, kitchen, library, dining room and five bedrooms are all situated at the property which is surrounded by farming land.
The closing date for public comment is March 14.
