New year, new hope

South Gambier v West Gambier

South Gambier is set to take on West Gambier this Saturday in a two day Barber Shield
 match.

After a tough end to last year South will be looking for a fresh start in 2025.

On the other hand, West will be looking to take their form from

last year into the back end of the season.

These sides last met in round one last year with the Dees picking up the upset win in a one day match at Malseed Park.

After that tough loss in round one the Roos will be out for revenge as they have vastly improved from that game.

Meanwhile, South have been very inconsistent this season and at times have struggled to put runs on the board.

A key player for the Dees in this match will be Noah Maxwell with the bat. In the back end of 2024 Maxwell found some nice form in the T20 competition, playing back to back solid games at the crease.

For the Roos Justin de Jong has been a reliable batter for them this season and will definitely be a key player for them in this match. Both in Barber Shield and T20 de Jong has been putting up some big scores for West and if he is at his best it will be a tough match for South.

Penola v East Gambier

This Saturday Penola will host East Gambier in a two day match at McCorquindale Park.

These sides last met in round one with Penola getting the win over the Doggies at Allan Scott Park.

The Eagles ended last season on a high note with a big win over the Dees while East will be looking to improve on the round seven performance against North.

This will be an important game for both sides as a win will assist their ladder positions, with Penola currently second while East sit fourth.

For Penola to pick up another win against the Doggies they will need to have multiple players step up with the bat.

This is something that worked well in round one with three players scoring 20 or more runs while another finished with 19.

While East had a couple big performances from that match they ultimately struggled, with three ducks in the batting lineup.

Overall both sides cannot afford to have a down game in this match as it may affect their finals chances.

Mil Lel v North Sportsmans

This Saturday Mil Lel and North Sportsman’s are set to face off in a two day match at Frew Park.

These two sides are at opposite ends of the ladder with the Tigers sitting in first place while Mil Lel has some work to do as they sit last in sixth.

Mil Lel struggled last time the sides met, only scoring 95 runs in 33 overs, with North picking up a big win.

Despite their ladder position, Mil Lel have shown they are a competitive side, with solid wins against Penola and East Gambier.

In both those wins Mil Lel batted extremely well and will be looking to get back to that form on
 Saturday.

North have been very dominant so far this season, with only one loss to their name having bowled and batted well.

Isaac Mulraney has been a key piece in the Tigers’ success this season with the ball and has been in fine form over the last two shield games.

This should be a very interesting game and, despite the ladder difference, it would not be a surprise if

Mil Lel give North a run for their money.
