MIDWEEK PENNANTS – 20TH January

Mid-week Pennant games resumed this week at the RSL Bowling Club with both Red and Blue teams having home games.

The RSL Bowling Club Red team faced the top of the table Mount Gambier Red team and had a very good result coming out comfortable winners with a 52 shots to 37 shots victory and recording the maximum 14 points pushing them into 5th position on the ladder.

Graeme Smith’s rink did the damage with a 29/16 win which was backed up by Wayne Legutko’s rink who registered a close 23/21 win.

The RSL Bowling Club Blue team however had a disappointing loss to Mount Gambier Green with a 43 to 54 shots loss. Carmel McQuade’s rink managed to get a 1 shot victory but Lindsay Moyle’s rink went down by 12 shots but the team registered 2 points for the day which keeps them in 6th position on the ladder.

Both teams are hoping to consolidate their positions this week with both travelling away for their respective games.

LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP FOURS – 23rd January

The RSL Bowling Club held the Ladies Championship Fours on Saturday 23rd January in perfect conditions.

Only 5 teams entered but the competition was very strong. The format was played over 12 ends with the highest number of shots advancing to the final.

After a preliminary game it was down to 2 very compeititive semi-finals to battle out which teams would advance. The fancied four of Fiona Pearson, Kym Franklin, Joy Bilney and Jane Crowder took on Jenny Bowering, Veronica Opie, Carmel McQuade and Julie Beaman.

After 11 ends there was only 1 shot the difference but on the last end Fiona Pearson was able to lead her team to 2 more shots and had a final 3 shot victory to advance to the final.

The other semi-final was played between the experienced four of Merna Whitehead, Jenny Waugh, Beryl Messenger and Nancye Wilson who were pitched against Eilene Cruise, Liz Shroeder, Kathy McIntosh and Trish Webb.

The scores were locked on even shots after the allotted 12 ends but the Merna Whitehead team was able to score 1 shot on the deciding end to go into the final.

The final was played over 15 ends and with some exciting and tight bowling the team of Fiona Pearson, Kym Franklin, Joy Bilney and Jane Crowder were too strong and ran out winners with a 13 shots to 9 shots victory  to take out a very entertaining competition.
