Next level luxury

Paramount luxury. If you had to summarise the 2024 instalment of Volkswagen’s premium SUV in the Toureg R-Line in two words, this is what it would be.

On the outside the top-of-the-line Volkswagen is very understated.

There are no flashy bodykits, sharp angles or over-the-top vents and flares, but what you do receive is an elegant, sleek design with chrome and gloss black accents in all the right places to deliver a visual delight.

The 2024 instalment has also been kicked up a notch, with the front end now sporting new Matrix LED headlights – putting more than 38,000 individual LEDs across the front end to help make every night drive a dream, with the addition of a thin LED light bar positioned under the bonnet line.

Not only has the front been given an update, but the rear has also been graced with some LED love, with a new fog light system illuminating a strip across the rear tailgate as well as the Volkswagen circular badging, which does look the business!

Finishing off the exterior upgrades are a set of 21-inch Leeds style alloy wheels which sport a very ‘EV’ design – but I’m here for it! The exterior updates, although minor, are functional while looking fantastic no matter what colour option you choose- whether it’s the premium Chili Red, Grenadilla Black, Meloe-Blue, Oyster Silver or Silicon Grey Metallics or the ever classy Pure White, you cannot go wrong!

Tucked away neatly inside the engine bay is Volkswagen’s 210TDI V6 3-litre turbocharged diesel engine, with 210kW of power and 600Nm of torque providing enough oomph to travel the nation or explore the great outdoors with a caravan in tow, taking advantage of the pulling power with a braked towing capacity of 3.5-tonnes.

While diesel’s are commonly known for being somewhat noisy, the 210TDI package is quiet and responsive, and the addition of all wheel-steering and factory air suspension also enhance your drive whether on or offroad.

To put it simply – the SUV was an absolute dream to drive around the region.

All of this is paired with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION driveline gives you more than enough power to go anywhere and conquer anything in the premium comfort of the Touareg cabin – and hopping inside is where it really gets going!

You know you’re in for a treat when you instantly spot two large screens housed neatly inside the dashboard and a classy, clutter-free centre console with the essentials exactly where you need them to be.

Leather seating is comfortable and the diamond stitched door card accents also add another level of luxury.

There is also the option to customise interior mood lighting accents with a selection of 30 colours.

Volkswagen’s Innovision Cockpit is a control centre like no other – and with the wave of your hand, vocal commands or just the touch of a screen gives you control over everything you need for a safe and comfortable drive.

Everything from digital radio, Bluetooth audio or satellite navigation, the 15-inch media unit allows you to do it all.

This is paired with a 12.3-inch Digital Cockpit to display all your engine and vehicle vitals neatly in front of you, while also allowing GPS navigation to display so you can keep your eyes firmly on the road or a quick glance down instead of having look towards the centre.

There are a number of these little additions across the Volkswagen Touareg that let you know the engineers have gone that extra step and truly thought of everything.

This was further confirmed when accidentally stumbling across the Touareg’s soft closing doors – which form part of the optional Sound and Comfort package.

I’d just latched one of the doors to step back and find the next angle to photograph when the sound of an actuator pulling the door closed grabbed my attention.

To be sure I was not imagining things I put it through its paces around the vehicle which sparked excitement.

While the Volkswagen Touareg R-Line is a fantastic car in its factory level – there are two absolutely feature-loaded optional packages that are the cherry on top to give you everything you ever wanted, and probably some more!

The Sound and Comfort package not only delivers dynamic sound through a Dynaudio Consequence Premium 730W audio system, but also includes four-zone climate control and rear heated outboard seats in addition to the front heated and ventilated seating, as well as a heads up display, direct tyre pressure monitoring, memory front passenger seat and electric steering column.

The second optional package is the inclusion of a panoramic glass sunroof, offering huge dimensions for big impressions! The massive addition tilts and slides while covering practically the entire roof of the vehicle, and offers passengers a virtually unrestricted view of the sky.

There is so much to be explored with the Volkswagen Touareg and while I could keep going and going – the best way to get a feel for it is by popping down and seeing the Barry Maney Volkswagen team at the Corner of Alexandra Street and Crouch Street North or contacting the dealership on 8721 3400 to check it out for yourself.
