No comment on council office costs

Wattle Range Council elected members have accepted, without comment, a staff report stating that preliminary estimates have put the cost of their proposed new office in Millicent above the $5.5m ceiling imposed by them.

The staff report was submitted to Tuesday’s monthly council meeting in Millicent and was merely received and noted by all seven councillors in attendance.

“The quantity surveyor’s initial cost estimates for the council-endorsed concept plans have come in above budget, so the architect has been tasked to reduce the scope and therefore cost of the project,” stated the staff report.

“A revised quantity surveyor cost estimate will be conducted when the revised plans are completed, and if they more closely align with the assigned budget, they will be presented to council and staff for feedback.”

The staff report said the project timelines would now also require revision.
