Off-season moves

Dual North Gambier premiership captain Adam Kurzman has been appointed as the new Robe Football Club senior coach.

In 2014 he moved into Victoria and again played successfully in the Geelong Football League.

Kurzman has spent the last four years as assistant/forward coach at the Geelong Amateurs.

The other newcomers to the coaching ranks in the Mid South East Football League in 2025 are Kalangadoo’s Mitch Lowe and Kongorong’s Matt Roscow.

Robe had to look for a new senior coach as Nathan Brown and his family are departing the seaside.

The one-time SANFL player and country league medallist took the Roosters to fourth and second in his two years at the helm. Leg injuries caused him to miss several games in this period.

The seaside club also requires a new president as Deb Mackey is not looking to extend her five-year term.

Ms Mackey has also been the club’s head trainer at the same time.

Writing in the 2024 Mid South Eastern Football League Grand Final Budget, Ms Mackey extended her congratulations to the league on another solid year of football.

“Not without its stress and puzzles we have all stuck together again and will watch with interest how the SANFL manages the situation,” Ms Mackey said.

League secretary Naomi Mitchell also refereed to the structure of SE football in her annual report.

“Looking ahead to 2025, it appears that our league’s structure will remain unchanged – a decision welcomed by many across the South East,” Ms Mitchell said.

“While we may face challenges and changes in the future, for now, we are confident that our league is strong, united and focused on continuing to build on the traditions and successes we have established over many years going forward.”

Meanwhile, there are movements aplenty in the local football world with Millicent farewelling one premiership player but welcoming back another.

Noah Lang has joined his Tantanoola-bound Ty brother in heading to the Mid South East Football League but has opted for Mount Burr.

A Mozzie spokesman said Noah Lang will bring important senior football experience with him to share with our group.

“He is a crafty, in and under, left footer, who loves a goal!” the spokesman said.

The Millicent Football Netball Club is excited to announce the signing of Brady Gibbs for the 2025 season.

Gibbs first came to the club in 2017 and was an important part of the drought breaking premiership in the following season, before work and travel took him away in 2020.

A tall key defender who can also play a variety of other roles, Gibbs is looking forward to the opportunity of playing with his younger brother Harry.

Reigning premiers Hatherleigh has just about completed its coaching appointments.

First-year Junior Colts coach Dr Sean McGrath took the young Eagles to the flag and has earned reappointment.

Other roles announced to date include Tom Hutchesson (A Grade), Jack Gray and Louis Brown (Senior Colts), Adam Hamilton (Under 11s) and Tom Agnew (Auskick)

The Kongorong Football Club is excited to add Victorian recruit Robbie Brewster to its senior list

Brewster is coming back from some time away from footy with work/life commitments.

After starting his football at Hamilton Magpies, he went on to play at Penshurst, where he was part of the 2012 premiership team.

Known for his long-sleeved jumpers, Brewster is a crafty small forward, with great goal sense, who can also pinch hit in the midfield.

The Hawks are looking to Brewster to pass on his knowledge around forward craft to their young group and providing the team with some onfield leadership.

After spending the 2024 season playing in a West Gambier premiership team, former Port MacDonnell captain Mark Smith is returning to the Bay as senior assistant coach.

Ryan Kuhl is back at Glencoe after playing senior and underage football with South Gambier.
