THE Lyons family’s Wilkah Hereford stud will hold their annual bull sale this Monday, 3 March at 4pm, with 20 stud bulls on offer.
Wilkah was established in late 2010, starting with a small number of stud cows, with their herd progressing and growing over the last 15 years.
Each year, the Lyons family carefully selects approximately 20 bulls to sell, to ensure the best quality of their herd is being offered.
Selection is based on colour, growth and good structure.
Each year, Wilkah conducts an AI program on all heifers and a selection of cows, to allow the small stud to build and develop its genetics further.
Wilkah strives to suit the commercial entity, focusing on producing bulls that are moderate birth weight, easy doing, have longevity and plenty of carcass.
Wilkah now runs a Spring commercial herd, using some of its own bred bulls, with some great calves being born and predominantly sold at 10 months of age.
This year’s sale bulls are sired by some outstanding bloodlines, including Hollow Point R024, who has put a stamp on all his progeny, Karoonda Yielder, whose progeny all have a wow factor with lots of carcass, great colour and depth of body and Glenholm Queenstown, a soft, easy-doing horn sire and more.
All bulls are drenched, vaccinated, pesti virus tested, parental verified, semen tested and morphology tested.
Wilkah stands by its bulls and firmly believes they will do their job with ease.
Inspections in the lead-up to the sale are welcome anytime.
