Past politician returns

Former Liberal Member for Mount Gambier Harold Allison made a brief return to the Blue Lake City for the festive season.

His family posted on social media that he would be holidaying with them and this attracted around 500 messages of goodwill.

The 94-year-old retired from politics in 1997 after representing Mount Gambier for 22 years.

He had been working as a teacher-librarian at Mount Gambier High School when he ended the 13-year occupancy of the seat by Labor’s Allan Burdon.

Originally from the United Kingdom, the high point of Mr Allison’s political career were his three years as Education Minister from 1979-82.
