Peaceful message spread

The Millicent Rotary Club has recently taken part in the international Peace Pole program which had its beginnings in 1955.

Peace Poles can be found in close to 200 countries and more than 200,000 have been placed around the world.

Peace Poles are planted with the Universal Peace Message “May Peace Prevail on Earth”.

They symbolise the common wish of Rotarians across the globe for a World at Peace and stand as a silent vigil for peace reminding us to think and act in the spirit of peace.

The peace message is written in four languages one panel on each side of the Peace Pole.

Millicent’s Peace Pole has been erected in Rotary Centenary Park between Williams Road, Battye Street and Park Terrace.

The message is written in English, Vietnamese, Punjabi and Bongani languages.

Rotarians established the park in 2007 and carry out monthly working bees to keep it in tip-top condition.

Wattle Range Council personnel also maintain the area.
