After a tough first Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara netball round Penola came out eager for a win this week facing Naracoorte.
The Eagles showed their fight and after a close match defeated the Demons 58-38, securing their first win for the season.
The game started neck and neck with both teams finding their feet and settling into the game.
Penola was able to get hands to some balls and convert a few turnovers to finish the first quarter with a three goal lead.
Hannah Klemm and Riley Buckingham got some great touches in the second, however several unforced errors allowed Naracoorte to stay within eight of Penola at half time.
The second half featured some smooth transitions down court from Siobhan Adams and Ashley Merrett and some great movement from the Penola goalies.
Gorgia Robbie also stepped up and made some excellent space while young shooter Tegan Lythgo landed 24 from 28 in the second half.
Down the other end the Naracoorte goalies were making some clever space with effective holds, however the Eagles were able to win rebounds and get some clean pick offs to stretch out the lead.
The Demons defence stayed consistent throughout the game and they continued to make Penola work hard to score, however, the Eagles were able to finish off with a 20 goal win.
Penola’s best players were Riley Buckingham and Tegan Lythgo.
The Eagles sit fifth on the ladder and this week will host eighth placed Padthaway in round 3 action.
