Penola youngster’s efforts recognised

Penola resident Will Goodes has been honoured with the South East of South Australia and Border Show Societies Association 2022 Young Rural Ambassador Award on Sunday.

The 18-year-old was chosen for the award for the community work he does within Penola, including his long-standing involvement with the Penola Show.

“I’m part of the Penola Scout Group and I have been helping out with the Penola Show ever since I was a toddler,” he said.

Mr Goodes said he was shocked when he received the award and said it was “well and truly” unexpected.

“I help out at the Penola show setting up all the stadiums for the flowers, the cakes, the Lego and all the artwork,” he said.

“I have been helping set up the sheep yards for the yard dogs for a couple of years now and I used to help with the show jumping when I was riding horses.”

Mr Goodes said he enjoyed being involved with the show so everyone could have a great time and see each other’s talents within the community.
