Pestka pounces at Western Speedway

Dominance was again shown by Daniel Pestka in the Stark family backed team, showing strong form to claim his second Eureka Garages and Sheds Sprintcar Series round win on Saturday night at Western Speedway Hamilton with a flag to flag win from Grant Anderson and Grant Stansfield to extend his lead in the championship.

It was a night where some of the more fancied competitors found themselves in trouble during qualifying with tricky track conditions.

Both Brock Hallett and Tate frost dropped valuable heat points in their races with both drivers having to transfer to the Eureka Garages and Sheds A Main via the last chance B Main.

Grant Anderson was another driver that dropped placings in his heat races to just make it to the finish with front end damage after contact with the turn four pole line tire.

Two drivers on their game were Pestka and Stansfield with both drivers tied on points after the qualifying event.

Pestka won pole position for the Eureka A Main that would see Stansfield lining up beside him, while the last chance B Main was a disappointing affair for Leigh Mugavin after leading all the way only to make contact with a lapped car with one lap to go put Mugavin to the rear of the field restart for the dash to the flag.

Tate Frost went on to win the B Main from Brock Hallett who was followed home by Blake Walsh, David Donegan, Andrew Hughes and David Aldersley.

As the field rolled around the Western Speedway Hamilton venue for the start of the A Main event the question was could Stansfield get the race start and take another win.

The green flag was waved to signal the start of the race that was short lived when Milburn got into trouble going into turn one, rolling and taking on major damage that would end his night, while both Carlin and Hallett were also caught up in the action. King was able to restart but was carrying top and front wing damage.

On restart the race only went as far as the middle of turns one and two when Van Ginneken rolled to join the other cars in the infield.

Finally under way on the third attempt and it was Pestka snatching the race lead from Stansfield with Anderson slotting into third place demoting Rankin to fourth.

The two leaders set a strong pace, Stansfield look to have the pace to match Pestka and was staying with him.

Anderson was holding third place from Rankin, Doukas and Cook when the race was brought to a halt on lap 12 for Walsh who upended his car to bring the red lights on.

Under way once more Stansfield was matching Pestka’s pace and was having a few looks to try and make a pass. Anderson was also now in close company of the leaders.

Stansfield was not giving up as the laps wound down and was doing everything he could to try and snatch the race win from Pestka, and with one lap to go Stansfield went into turn one deep and it looked like he might be able to go for a challenge, but was a little unsettled as he came of turn two going a little wide.

Anderson seized on the opportunity to go for the gap and both Anderson and Stansfield were side by side into turn three, with the former having enough steam to pull of the pass and claim second place from Stansfield.

Pestka did a great job once again to go on and take the race win and his second feature win of the Series.
