Pies pushed to the edge

A Grade – Kalangadoo v Robe

After a loss to Glencoe in the second semi-final last weekend Kalangadoo must have to reset and adjust its game against Robe in this weekend’s MSENA preliminary final. The Roosters’ lies strength in the goal circle through Halle Carter and Sarah Laurie which means defenders, Reanna Wetherall and Lauren Kain will have to work overtime to shut down their influence.

Down the other end of the court Abbey Duncan and Kori Collins combine well and shoot with accuracy and are fed well from outside the circle by Jayde Peacock and Kirsty Egan.

Sophie Wrightson will need to work hard outside of the circle to cut off the drive of Lucy Perkins, because once she reaches the circle she feeds her goalies with accuracy.

Based on previous results throughout the season, Kalangadoo should come away with the win, but Robe will make them earn it.

A Reserve – Robe v Glencoe

Robe and Glencoe face off against each other at Kalangadoo for a spot in the decider.

The Murphies have a strong goal circle of Abbie Cocks and Laura Edwards who can use their height and accuracy to score with ease within the goal circle.

The Roosters defenders Keryn Moore and Kimberley Austin have strong hands and rebound well, both being able to read the play and pick off passes.

Glencoe playing coach Bec Edwards will need to shut down Keelin Winterfield’s drive onto the circle to prevent her accurate feeding into goalies Demi Carter and Hannah Perkins.

Sam Brierley and Emily Thompson will need to work hard to prevent the ball from getting into the goalies in order to limit opportunities to shoot.

Robe enjoyed convincing wins both times in the minor rounds and should finish the day with the ticket to the grand final.

B Grade – Hatherleigh v Glencoe

With a win each under their belts through the minor rounds, Hatherleigh and Glencoe go head to head in a tasty battle this Saturday.

The Murphies’ Chloe Watson will have to work hard through the midcourt to dampen the drive and determination of Eagle Jasmyne Bellinger.

Kate Sealey and Sally McDonnell in the defensive end will put the pressure on for Hatherleigh’s Hayley Bell and Charlie Muhovics, forcing errors and creating turnovers for their team.

Natalie Chambers feeds her Eagles goalies well and instructs play down the attacking end, while Glencoe’s Hayley Greenfield attacks the ball hard.

The Murphies’ strength and determination may prove to be too much for the Eagles.

B Reserve – Kalangadoo v Port MacDonnell

Kalangadoo had a close game against Mount Burr last weekend in the second semi final and will come out firing in the prelim against Port MacDonnell.

Gemma Box and Narelle Ryans combine well in the Magpies’ defensive end and will use their height to create doubt in the minds of the Demons’ midcourt, creating turnovers for their team.

Down the other end of the court Demons Jenni Taylor and Fiona Scott will work tirelessly to create turnovers and send the ball back into the offensive goal circle. The battle between Paige Cawthorne and Angie Morgan will be one to watch. These teams have played close games throughout the minor rounds and this game has the potential to be close again.

17 and Under – Port MacDonnell v Mount Burr

Last time Port MacDonnell and Mount Burr’s 17 and Under sides met in the minor rounds the game finished in a draw.

Both teams will come out firing on Saturday to win the spot in the grand final.

Lara Wilson and Mackenzie Millard will use their accuracy to their advantage in the goal circle, limiting rebounding opportunities for the Mozzies Olivia Dean and Maddie Gamble.

Oliviah Baker and Jarrah Altschwager combine well in the midcourt and use their speed to drive hard onto the ring to feed their goalies.

Port MacDonnell’s Ariella Smith and Kate Winterfield will work overtime in the defensive goal ring to create turnovers and gin rebounds.

This game has the potential to go either way, with both teams having the drive and determination to win.

15 and Under – Mount Burr v Robe

Mount Burr and Robe face off at Kalangadoo for a journey to the decider.

Kiana Brooks and Georgie Wirth will use their accuracy in the Roosters’ goal circle and will be fed well by Ella Bermingham and Emily Dew.

Mozzies Sara Smith and Macy Burns will apply the pressure in their defensive circle using their height to pull in necessary rebounds.

Abbey Falting will lead her team from the centre, using her skill and speed to work the ball down the court and will combine well with Lola Schultz outside the defensive circle.

Mount Burr won both times these teams met previously and have the potential to do it again, however the Roosters will make it tough for them.

13 and Under – Port MacDonnell v Glencoe

Port MacDonnell take on Glencoe in the 13 and Under preliminary final this weekend. The Demons are a strong side, with strength in their defensive end through Layla McPherson and Chelsea Fulham, who will put the pressure on for the Murphies’ Chloe Childs and Violet Thorne.

Layla Hawke feeds into the Glencoe goalies with ease and accuracy and drives well down the court, she will be well matched by Port MacDonnell’s Isla Fulham who has the ability to get her hands to loose balls.

The Murphies will fight hard in this game and will need to stay strong against the tough Port MacDonnell side.
