Pigeons swoop on Pumas for season upset

THE TWELFTH MAN

HDCA – D Grade

PIGEON Ponds has caused an upset by defeating Grampians at Pigeon Ponds Recreation Reserve on Saturday, in round 15 of the Hamilton and District Cricket Association D Grade competition by seven runs.

The loss continues the run of outs the Pumas has suffered since the start of the new year, as Grampians has only defeated Hamilton North and St Andrews (on forfeit) in the seven rounds played, yet still the Pumas hold onto fourth place.

Pigeon Ponds won the toss and elected to bat with Alex Hodgson (50) and Brenden Preston (68) leading the way with the bat to see the home side post 6-178.

Grampians only had nine batsmen and that lack of numbers would be telling for the visitors, as they replied with 171 all-out, as the Pigeons held their nerve in the death overs.

Hamilton returned to the second rung of the ladder with a bonus-point victory against arch rivals St Andrews and Tarrington routed Hamilton North for only 30 to win by 10 wickets.
