Pine Hill truck and grass fire

Emergency services crews were called to a truck and grass fire in the Upper South East today.

Just after midday the CFS responded to incidents on the Dukes Highway in Pine Hill, east of Bordertown.

Approximately 26 firefighters on eight trucks responded initially to a small grass fire, followed by a B-double truck fire along the Dukes Highway.

CFS crews were assisted by farm firefighting units to gain quick control of both incidents caused by a failed wheel bearing.

Quick action of the truck driver to detach the impacted trailer from the prime mover, along with the swift response of firefighters allowed for this asset to be saved.

The impacted trailer containing dairy products, however, was unable to be saved, with losses estimated at $250,000.

SA Police are supporting crews on scene with likely traffic impacts along the Dukes Highway for some time.
