Pioneer player locked in

The big-name signings are continuing for the Castec Rural Pioneers, with a championship player signing on the dotted line for the 2023 NBL1 South season.

The Pioneers last week announced the signing of Will Mayfield from the Canberra Gunners in the NBL1 East competition.

Mayfield averaged 17.6 points per game at 52.9% through the 2022 NBL1 East season, including a season high of 34 points against Illawarra in August, together with 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists each game.

The signing of Mayfield further strengthens the Pioneers 2023 roster and provides head coach Richard Hill increased optionality.

Hill said he was delighted that Mayfield had committed to be a Pioneer in 2023.

“Will had a tremendous season in a championship winning team last year,” he said.

“He is a do-it-all, tough and competitive player whose versatility will see him log minutes at the two, three and four spots for us.

“I expect Will to become a fan favourite very quickly with his combative, wholehearted play.”

The Castec Rural Pioneers and the OneFortyOne Pioneers will commence their 2022 NBL1 South campaigns in April 2023.
