Players contest Lucindale Veterans event

On a much better day weather wise, 50 players including five from Casterton visited Lucindale to complete a 36-hole South East Veterans Golf event.

Peter DeLaine of Robe won the title with a 64 after a tight battle with Robert “Tank” Thompson, who recorded a 63.

Dennis Smith (60) and Lyndsay Copeman (59) completed the minor places.

The daily result was all about Dennis Smith, who won after a countback with Peter DeLaine on 34 in First Division.

Arthur Neijalke had the day’s best score of 37 to win Second Division in grand style.

Lyndsay was next best on 34 while Bill Cheers gave him a run for his money with 33.

Nearest the pins were hit by Mike Lyon and Milan Hodak while the Ross Orchard went to Colin Rex and Ewen Herring.

Peter Bateman got the Scotch and the ball rundown was to 28 or better.

The next round is at Naracoorte on Monday, July 18, followed by Robe on the opening day of August.
