Pointy end of season brings quality darts

The South East Darts Association Summer League wrapped up in fine style after a hosting the grand final last Friday night.

After the preliminary and semi-finals were held over the previous two weeks the decider shaped up to be a cracker with the top two teams from each division ready to face off for the flag.

The Western Covids and Haggis Hunter’s were the last teams left standing in the fight for the Division 1 title.

The Western Covids started fast and won the first three legs, but the Haggis Hunter’s fought back to only be one leg behind heading into the first round of singles and right in the game.

Unfortunately for them the Western Covids were on fire in the singles with Mick Maynard having back-to-back 18 darters in the opener.

The rest of his side were right behind him as they won seven of the eight legs in the first round to enjoy an eight-leg advantage.

But the Haggis Hunter’s held their own after that and a great battle ensued through the remaining games.

However, not even an inspiring 128 peg from Haggis Hunters captain Jamie Coates could close the gap as the Western Covids took out the night and trophy 19-10

In Division 2 it was an arm wrestle between the Attamurra Arrows and Viking’s.

It was a tight battle from the outset after the Attamurra Arrows scratched out a narrow 7-6 advantage over The Viking’s.

In a similar occurrence to the Division 1 game the Arrows were strong in the singles during the second round and won six out of eight leg’s to open up a seven-leg advantage and take control.

But the third round was dead even as The Viking’s fought hard to get back into the game.

But with only two leg’s needed for victory, Matt Knowles won the first two leg’s of the final round to win the night for the Attamurra Arrows 19-12
